Family Trips

A wise person once told me something very important about vacations. Once you have children, they are no longer called vacations. They are called 'family trips'. A vacation is not supposed to be hard work. "Family trips" are a lot of work. Even if it's only for 72 hours.

So here is a basic breakdown of our most recent family trip:

Day One:
  • Packed for myself, husband, and two toddlers.
  • Drove to Phoenix. Listened only to primary songs and veggie tales CD's the whole way there. (per demand of screaming children- mostly Mabry)
  • Handed over my beloved Sonic drink for my children to finish (to appease more screaming- mostly Adley)
  • Arrived at this hotel: Fabulous

Pointe Hilton at Squaw Peak
  • Applied sunscreen to the little girls so daddy can take them to this amazing pool.

  • Unpacked the clothes, pack n play, food, and begin to arrange dinner plans for the fam
  • Feed the hungry kiddos, allow them to eat way too much candy.
  • Tried to put children to bed. Woke up with them every 2 hours. Why? Because they won't sleep, and apparently, neither will I.
Day Two:
  • Apply lots of sunscreen and get ready for a day of fun.
  • Go miniature golfing. It takes 20 minutes. We only made it to the 3rd hole before the girls got bored and start whining.
  • Get in the pool. Mabry needs to go potty. Get back in the pool. Adley needs a diaper change. Back to the pool. Kids are hungry. Get out of the pool to eat lunch. Kids get tired and cranky.
  • Mabry throws a great tantrum...on the deck of the pool. Lovely.
  • Leave the pool to put kids down for a nap in the hotel room.
  • Spend the afternoon and evening playing games with cousins and eating dinner, and getting ice cream.
  • Children actually cooperate and go to bed without any major complications.
  • Play an exciting game of Ticket to Ride with the siblings.
Day Three:
  • Load sunscreen on the children.
  • Ride on the lazy river and sit by the pool with Adley.

She doesn't really like the water. But she loves mama and won't leave my side.

Mabry enjoys french fries for lunch while sitting at the bar.

12 pm=time to check out. Our family trip has come to an end. Don't get me wrong. We do actually love our children and we all had a great time.

BUT....we do have a real "vacation" planned for August, without the girls. Stay tuned!
